We didn’t begin with the intention of becoming a skincare brand — Sana Haus was born out of necessity for better ways to address acne from a holistic perspective.

From our founder — how an 11-year struggle with cystic acne inspired a holistic beauty brand.

Hi, I’m Sophia! I’m the Founder and CEO of Sana Haus, an integrative esthetician, and published dermatology researcher.

Acne had been a (practically) life-long struggle for me, starting when I was 11-years-old. After years and years of failed acne treatments and skincare products, failed diets, and supplements that were only making things worse, I did what many of us do: I turned to my own research for answers.

Through thousands of hours of research, I realized there was a huge gap in the acne market.

After digging deep into research, including through my time spent working in a dermatology research group, I had a brand new understanding of the skin, its physiology, and how my acne was forming. And when I turned to the ingredients I had been using in my skincare — it all finally made sense.

The conventional products I had used to treat my acne were drying, disruptive, or hormone-disruptive. But, the holistic products I was using weren’t any better.

THE REALIZATION THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

Holistic skincare for acne is loaded with “non-comedogenic” ingredients that are *actually* acnegenic.

Despite many of the products I was using being labeled as non-comedogenic, my newfound understanding of the skin pointed to a different conclusion. The products I was using were very clearly comedogenic and contributing to my stubborn acne.

Jojoba oil, olive oil, and avocado oil were loaded with barrier-disruptive fatty acids, coconut oil with its inflammatory fatty acids, cocoa butter, shea butter — the list goes on.

SANA HAUS IS BORN

On the search for skincare with acne-fighting actives *without* acne-causing ingredients, I was surprised that I couldn’t find any products that fit my new criteria.

This is when, for the first time, I actually considered formulating something for myself. After all, I had already laid all the groundwork with my own research!

So, I compiled my research, tracked down the highest quality suppliers of powerful botanicals, and got to formulating.

And that’s when everything changed. After testing my first formula, now our flagship product, Clarity, my skin responded dramatically within just a few weeks! In 2020, we launched Sana Haus and the Clarity serum to the public.

Since then, Clarity has helped hundreds of women achieve clearer skin, garnered hundreds of 5-star reviews, and become a staple in skincare routines around the world.

I couldn't be more honored that you love and appreciate the hard work, intuition, and thought behind Clarity and the rest of our Sana Haus products. It truly is the product of a thousand divinely-inspired baby steps that have culminated in what I believe to be a sophisticated, results-driven philosophy of supporting the skin.
